I see this everywhere on google and other places online ... what is an "EA" when it comes to trading? Some sort of automated trading system? For what software?

EA stands for Expert Advisors. I recommends you read this thread: TOP EAs
These EAs basically are programs that are going to monitor the market for you, find opportunities and even open positions for you.

Depends, some are. Sometimes you can get them for free by joining a trading team or by sharing profit with the owner of the EAs
